of Us

A short documentary film about the joys and challenges of community on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

The Story of Us

Host a Screening & Workshop

We'd love to collaborate with you to host a screening of our short documentary film, The Story of Us: Finding Belonging on the Edge of Wilderness.  The film, set in the northern Minnesota landscape, explores the power of community through the lens of two residents who relocated to both Ely and Grand Marais. It chronicles the transformative experiences made possible by small-town living on the edge of wilderness.

The Story of Us reaches far beyond the characters in the film. It is our story. The story of us, as individuals, in community, experiencing shared awe, wonder, conflict and repair. The film screening will be followed by facilitated dialogue that focuses on exploring our shared experiences that make up the story of us. Mutual Q&A among audience and filmmakers will encourage participants to explore and share their own stories of transformation and the ongoing need to work through conflict toward repair in community.

We recommend budgeting 90 minutes for a screening and workshop experience, but certainly there is enough fodder to carry on with discussions for much longer. Given that the film is just about 20 minutes, we do not recommend workshops less than 60 minutes.
